College hoops heating up
Talk about exciting ballgames in the Philippines’ Collegiate ranks both in the UAAP and the NCAA.
Personally, i tend to watch the UAAP more than the NCAA since i really find the games here more exciting (kudos to NCAA fans there, but i am an NCAA fan as well one way or another). And of course because of the fact that the La Salle Green Archers play in the UAAP.
The Final Four of both tournaments are almost on the way. Well, at least. The number two seeding in the UAAP and NCAA has yet to be decided. In the UAAP, the Ateneo Blue Eagles are already assured of being the number one team while the San Beda Red Lions notched the top seed in the NCAA when they beat the Letran Knights, 65-63 in a thrilling overtime win decided by a last shot made by Borgie Hermida of the Red Lions.
The loss of the Knights put them in a four-way tie with the San Sebastian Stags, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers and the Mapua Cardinals with all sporting a 9-5 mark. These four teams will slug it out in a playoff to determine the number two seeding and who will make up the Final Four. In this situation, the Stags will face the number 5 Bombers, then the Cardinals will meet the Knights. The winners of these matches will then again play for the right to be the number two seed and a twice to beat advantage in the Final Four. Then the losing teams on these matches will again play for the last final four slot. (Talk about complicating play offs..)
In the UAAP, as previously mentioned, the Ateneo Blue Eagles are already assured of the number one seed. The De La Salle Green Archers and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws will battle it out for the top two seeding. This will virtually be a best of three outing since they will again face each other as the number two and number three teams face each other in the Final Four. Ateneo will face number four UE Red Warriors.
Finals prediction:
NCAA – San Beda Red Lions vs. Letran Knights (advantage is to the Red Lions, yeah.. with Sam Ekwe there.. but i think we already had so much upsets in this year. So watch out for the Knights)
UAAP – Ateneo Blue Eagles vs. De La Salle Green Archers (this is every fan’s fantasy game. Blue against Green. And it’s such a moment to see the Green archers come back from behind the spotlight to give the Blue Eagles a run for the trophy)
