College hoops heating up

•September 10, 2008 • 3 Comments

Talk about exciting ballgames in the Philippines’ Collegiate ranks both in the UAAP and the NCAA.

Personally, i tend to watch the UAAP more than the NCAA since i really find the games here more exciting (kudos to NCAA fans there, but i am an NCAA fan as well one way or another). And of course because of the fact that the La Salle Green Archers play in the UAAP.

The Final Four of both tournaments are almost on the way. Continue reading ‘College hoops heating up’

2008 US Open

•September 9, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Roger Federer came out of a slump.. FINALLY.

Federer defended and won this year’s USD 1.5 million worth 2008 US Open. He beat Andy Murray in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2. IN the process he came closer to overcoming the record of Pete Sampras in the all time slam title list. He is now one slam title away of tying the record.

He has now won five straight US Open titles (wow..) and won 34 straight matches at Flushing Meadows.

It was reminiscent of the OLD Federer, the one who dominated and held the world number one in the span of 3 years (2004-2007). This was most evident in his semifinal match with World number 3 Novak Djokovic.

Will this be the start of another dominating streak? Rafael Nadal should watch out, his grip in the number one ranking might not last that long.

In the women’s side, Serena Williams defeated J. Jankovic and secured the World Number one ranking.

About Dormant bank accounts

•September 3, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Ever had a bank account you eventually forgot to know you had? Sometimes, people tend to get too busy that they just open a certain bank account, and then they just leave their money their to grow with a certain amount of interest with no transactions for a long period of time or sometimes, your account falls below the minimum required maintaining balance.

It happens, and has happened unfortunately for some small time bankers, ordinary people. Their account becomes dormant, and everyone with a bank account would know that there are service fees charged by banks on these dormant accounts and for those below the minimum required balance. It is shown either in the passbook or any other formal document for  that matter. You probably might have just missed that portion.

Anyway, if you just forgot to transact with your account once in a while, and it happens to be dormant or below the minimum balance, then do not just accept that you be charged Continue reading ‘About Dormant bank accounts’

One of the alternatives available for those thinking of saving their money is through buying an insurance.

There are a lot of varieties of insurance being offered in the market right now. For individuals, you can either have a life insurance or something like a pension. The mechanics of this type of investment vehicle is simple, you pay a certain sum to the insurance company (called premium) at a certain period of time (term) at your option, e.g. monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, depending on your capacity to pay.

What are the advantages of getting yourself an insurance? Continue reading ‘Thinking of getting an insurance?’

December 6, 2008: Dela Hoya-Pacquiao mega fight

•August 28, 2008 • 5 Comments

Who would have guessed? Eventually Oscar dela Hoya and Manny Pacquiao have come to terms and have agreed FINALLY to fight on December 6, 2008.

After the talks somewhat came to a halt after disagreements on the purse sharing, the two camps have finally settled regarding this and have announced that the mega buck fight would push through.

Pacman is mum regarding the details about the agreed sharing on the purse but said that it is already acceptable to him and would train hard with Freddie Roach for this fight, the biggest test so far in his illustrious career. Continue reading ‘December 6, 2008: Dela Hoya-Pacquiao mega fight’
